“MY RICHES”

I have such wonderful memories of my nine glorious years at Shady Brook…memories which all the money in the world could not possibly buy. Who would ever realize such peace and tranquility could still exist in the chaotic world of today.

I picture Shady Brook as a beautiful red lady, standing so proud and tall against the deep blue skies of Potter County, surrounded by a chain of endless mountains.

How easily all these little memories flash through my mind…a babbling brook running through the property, singing as it ran so swiftly over stones which must have taken years and years to accumulate in my little stream.

The huge pines whisper to each other at the slightest breeze. They seem to have a language all their own and you wish you could understand what they are trying to tell each other.

Watching all the little animals preparing for the long winter months ahead makes you realize these little creatures are so much more intelligent than most human beings. They have the foresight to prepare for the hard times which may lay ahead for them. It gave me great satisfaction watching them gather up the corn and seeds that were put out for them…hoping and praying they would survive the cold winter safe and sound.

I find it difficult to describe the beautiful winter wonderlands, the full moon reflecting on the snow-covered woods with such beauty only Mother Nature could capture on canvas.

I have watched the pond making ready for winter. Wondering how the trout would survive after the pond froze over. The ice gets to thick you worry about where they would get their food. I was greatly relieved to see spring roll around and sure enough there were all my little trout swimming around without a worry in the world.

Who could ever forget the Browns…my wonderful neighbors. Their hearts are filled with love. They are simple-living people with one thought in mind…how to be happy. They are not searching for a new road everyday, but simply being content with what God has given them.

I know my great lady will be lonely this winter with no one to look after her. However God willing, we shall return soon. I want to relive the mysteries of Heaven, the joys of the earth and the happiness I shall always treasure.

An Irish Blessing

May the road rise with you
May the wind be always
at your back,
May the sun shine warm
upon your face,
And rains fall soft
upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
may God keep you
in the hollow of His hand

I've been meaning to upload something for my Aunt Dolly for a while now. But I had to wait to get a copy of "My Riches" from her daughters. This was read at her funeral and was written by her (I don't know when). Aunt Dolly was my grandmother's older sister and she passed away just around 2 weeks away from my grandmother's birthday. It was really sad at the funeral because Ellen (Dolly's eldest) came over to her and gave her a birthday card signed from Dolly. She must have done that just a couple weeks before her health turned for the worse.

I'm okay with her passing now. It's been a while and I was able to pick out a knick-knack of hers that is now sitting proudly on my shelf next to my grandfather's fishing lure and my grandmother's owl. It still makes me sad to think that she really loved Potter County and wanted so much to go back; but she'll never get there again.

My Mama and I want to visit Potter County in the near future; I'll take lots of pictures when we eventually get there but for right now, this is the only picture I have: [link]

Here are some other pictures of my Aunt Dolly that I liked: [link] [link]
